Koray Ergunay, M.D., Ph.D.

NRC Research Associate

With a focus on virus and microbial taxonomy, Dr. Koray Ergunay currently serves as a National Research Fellow at the Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit. His research mainly involves vector-borne and emerging viruses and focuses on assay development, surveillance, metagenomics and pathogen discovery. Dr. Ergunay received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey where he continues to serve as a full professor at the Department of Medical Microbiology. At Hacettepe University, Dr. Ergunay spearheaded the development and launch of Turkey’s first One Health department and Master of Science program.
