IDENTIFYING CHARACTERS:
Maxillary palpus of female
almost as long as either the antenna or proboscis
Postspiracular setae absent
Prespiracular setae present
Scales on the dorsal surface of
the radial sector and media narrow
BIONOMICS:
The larvae are found in shallow pools of receding streams in association
with green algae. Females are crepuscular biters rarely entering building
to take a blood meal, and prefer to bite large mammals and sheep.
MEDICAL IMPORTANCE:
This species has been infected with P. vivax under laboratory
conditions but because of its host preference is not considered an
important vector of malaria.
