Bionomics

  • Type habitat: Mediterranean scrub.

    Medical Importance

    A proven vector of visceral leishmaniasis (L. infantum) in France, Italy (inc. Sardinia), Spain, Malta and north Africa (Killick-Kendrick, 1990; Lewis & Ward, 1987). Phlebovirus serotypes have been isolated from this species in Italy (Tesh, 1988; Verani et al., 1988) [Seccombe & Ready 1993: 12].
