Adults of Lutzomyia panamensis have been collected in CDC light traps and from protected human bait in the coastal region of Colombia (Duque et al. 2004).

Medical Importance

"In Panama, L. panamensis is regarded as a natural vector of Leishmania panamensis. (Young & Duncan 1994:580)
